The honest character of each base — what it’s great for, and the trade-off that comes with it.
The walkable heart of the resort: hotels, apartments, the highest density of restaurants and bars, supermarkets and the Zero Point hub all within a short walk. The easiest base if you want après-ski and convenience without relying on transport.
The resort’s family hub, home to the Leevilandia children’s area (magic carpets and beginner terrain) and a second ski-school base. Quiet, purpose-built, ski-in/ski-out — but away from the village’s dining, supermarkets and nightlife.
At the base of the West Slopes with fast lift access via Gondola 2000 and the Levi West chair, plus the World Cup slope and Activity Park. Favoured by keen skiers who want first tracks; quiet in the evenings.
Long, wide carving pistes served by the new Levi Six chairlift, next to the golf course and 28 km of illuminated cross-country tracks. Secluded and peaceful; you’ll rely on the R1 bus or a car for village errands.
Sprawling traditional log-cabin areas with direct access to the cross-country network — a classic Finnish cabin holiday. Bus-dependent for the slopes and village, so budget for the ski bus or a hire car, especially for groceries.
A high-altitude enclave of glass igloos and luxury villas, prized for privacy and aurora viewing away from village light. Genuinely remote — around 9 km from the centre and roughly 7 km from the nearest supermarket — so a car or taxi is essential.
A small village north of Levi known for husky parks and the Elves Village, with low light pollution for aurora. There’s no ski access here, so it suits trips built around huskies and dark skies with a hire car.
The original village about 2 km downhill, with apartment-hotels that are often noticeably cheaper and good for self-catering. Served by the R1 ski bus; a quiet, practical option if you don’t mind a short commute to the lifts.

How movement actually works between the airport, the village and the slopes — and when you’ll want a car.
Two loops connect the accommodation zones to the slopes and meet at the Zero Point interchange: R1 serves Rakkavaara and the Northeast, R2 serves South Point and West Point. At Zero Point an arriving R1 bus often continues as an R2, giving a one-seat ride from the eastern cabins to the South Slopes.
Frequencies scale with the season and thin out after the early evening; there is also a mid-day break of roughly an hour. Skis and boards travel in dedicated compartments.
Fare rules vary and sources conflict on whether travel is free, pass-dependent or paid — so we don’t label the ski bus “free”. Confirm the current ticketing terms for your dates before you rely on it.
Scheduled shuttles meet flights for the ~15 km / ~15-minute transfer. Indicatively, village-centre services have run from about €10, with broader cabin-zone coverage around €15 adult / €7 child, and premium outer-cabin routes higher.
Private group transfers from Kittilä Airport to Levi start at roughly €154 — better value for larger parties.
Bolt and Uber do not operate here; you rely on local taxi firms. Taxis are the main option during the mid-day bus break and after the ski bus winds down in the evening. Typical internal village fares are around €20–€40.
Major agencies have desks at Kittilä Airport. A car is strongly recommended for Utsuvaara, Köngäs and outer cabins, and handy for groceries from anywhere outside the centre.
Booking direct with a hotel often unlocks “early ski-in” from around 09:00 on arrival day, whereas online-travel-agency bookings are typically held to a 15:00 check-in — worth knowing when you plan arrival day.
